Nach den ganzen Klassikern heute mal das Augenmerk auf ein frisches Release, das Ende Oktober auf Versatile erscheinen wird: I:Cubes neues Album "3". Eine Platte, die man nicht unterschätzen sollte. Auf den ersten Blick vielleicht noch unspektakulär, spielt bei I:Cube die Musik zwischen den Zeilen, wächst es einem mit jedem Hören mehr ans Herz, was da Nicolas Chaix (=I:Cube) aus der Distanz zum Floor an musikalischem Kapital herausschlägt. Immer an den altbekannten Genre-Ettiketten vorbei, klingen seine Tracks nicht nach kopfigen Freistil-Eskapaden, die bemüht versuchen, Begriffe wie House, HipHop oder Downbeat zu umschiffen. Sondern leicht und luftig, mit Melodien und putzigen Sounds, manchmal hoppeligen Beats und dann auf einmal wieder straigher (für I:Cube-Verhältnisse natürlich) und auch mal aufgeräumt mit viel Platz in den Tracks sich zu Mikro-Atmosphären zusammensetzend, dass man sie nicht mehr missen möchte. Musik, zu der man am liebsten an sonnigen Herbsttagen über französische Stoppelfelder schlendern will, nachdem man den ein oder anderen Café au Lait intus hat, don't miss!

At 25, Nicolas Chaix had already developed a deeply personal universe through intensive listening to Paris free radios (Aligre, Libertaire, Nova, FG), and frantic scrutinizing of all things graphic-related not mentioning the obvious frequent participation to Paris burgeoning rave and free party scene. After sending several demos to Gilb'r, at the time one of Radio Nova's main sound-programmer, Chaix signed to the newly founded Versatile imprint and produced the label's first release, Disco Cubizm, under the I:Cube moniker. The EP features a nifty Daft Punk remix that put Versatile on the world map of "hot" electronic talents. Although Nicolas' later releases "Metamorphik" and "Picnic Attack" did not quite catch public attention in the same proportion, his debut LP "Picnic Attack" received a particularly warm welcome from the British musical press. A twisted and personal interpretation of Detroit Techno, Chicago House, movie soundtracks and absurd jingles, Picnic Atack inaugurated the concept of "Library Recorded Background Music". After a string of remixes for various artists and the release of his first collaboration with Gilb'r under the Chateau Flight moniker -Discobole EP- I:Cube unleashed new musical mayhem with his series of deeply inspired and irony-tinged EP : „Scratch Robotniks, "Tropiq" and " Pooh Pah". This material was compiled on his second LP Adore. Its amazing mixture of dub, bossa, techno, electro and house music revealed I:Cube to a larger audience and established his talent as a unique composer. In october 2000, Versatile released Chateau Flight's first LP Puzzle to much critical acclaim and the duo plans a live-tour for the year 2001. Whilst prolongated his musical co-op with Gilb’r on mythical remixes (Brandy’s Ritual, Cesaria Evora’s classics), Chaix kept on exploring all the leftfield universes inhabiting his mind on solo Faceball 2000 efforts or in conjunction with the group of friends he formed in Montreuil, on the outskirts of Paris. Among those, possibly most promising, is joint with looser-pornographer extraordinaire, John Cravache, a blunted up and crazed out version of Max Berlin set to release some trend-setting material in 2003. In October 2003, Chaix will release his long awaited third coming, „3", and again settle the score within the electronic music community. A very mature LP that showcases the diverse talents of the man with less of the ascetic techno angle exposed on „Adore". The album features sever sureshoots in the form of Music, Inspector Cube, Vaccum Jackers or the RZA (of Wu Tang Clan fame) featuring „Can you deal with that?"
