Kidlit author's survival guide 3. September 2014
Von Amazon Customer - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format: Taschenbuch
If you write for kids and need tips, advice or overall support for your craft, look no further. I get this book every year for several reasons: it keeps you up-to-date on agent movements, it lists agencies and publishers (addresses, email, etc.), and it categorizes both using icons that tell you if they are seeking newbie writers (like me), the genres they represent, and they even throw in FYI tidbits for GP (general purposes). You can also read accounts from other authors on how they overcome writing obstacles, and most-importantly, how they got published. I especially like this year's articles, 'Writing for Boys (and other reluctant readers) by Carmela Martino, and 'Make Them Care About Character' by Mary Kole, which was right on time for me and my current manuscript. But my fav is "Crafting a Query' by Kara Gebhart Uhl. I lists dos and donts AND includes samples, that way there is no excuse for you not to know what to put in that query letter! I love it! You will too.

Too much money for too little information 7. Februar 2015
Von Pink Slippers - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format: Taschenbuch Verifizierter Kauf
To me, this book was not worth the money. The first 200 pages are all about authors and their successes, ideas, suggestions. I purchased the book hoping and expecting lists of book publishers. 200 pages is 1/2 the book, by the way!!

Further, there are only about 50 pages of actual publishing places to submit. A lot of them require an "Agent" before submitting. It gets worse.

When I got to the very first book publisher? "Not accepting manuscripts at this time" and there's more than a few just like that. Why even list them if you can't submit to them???? Ridiculous. This book was not what I expected.

Disappointed 29. Dezember 2014
Von Karen S - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format: Taschenbuch
I bought this book to explore options in writing for children's magazines. I was very disappointed to find discrepancies between the information it provides and some magazine’s guidelines provided online. One magazine was listed in the book as paying 6-12 cents per word but their website clearly states “We are not able to pay for any writing or illustrations.”
Although there may be some good information in here, I saw enough errors to lose trust in the book as a whole. A reference work like this should not make me feel I have to check all their “facts” before I can submit.
I will be requesting a refund.

"INFORMATIVE, CONCISE, EXTREMELY USEFUL REFERENCE!" 9. Oktober 2014
Von Geraldine Ahearn - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format: Taschenbuch
I have used this book as a very helpful reference and guide, prior to publishing my children's books. This is a great book for both Children's Writers & Illustrators to help direct them to listings of publishers, and much more. It is informative, concise, and easy-to-read. It's also the type of reference that encourages you to keep updated & informed with New editions every year, which I've noticed through the years, does make a huge difference, because New Publishers and other information is always added on. This book is not only great for New writers, but for established writers as well. I've also known a few illustrators who enjoyed this reference as much as my writing friends. It answers many questions that we all may have as it directs you to the choices we are looking for. Extremely useful, and highly recommended!

A must-have - especially for newer writers! 11. September 2014
Von J Collette Smith - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format: Taschenbuch
This book is an excellent resource for writers in the children's market. It has some great articles (Middle Grade vs. Young Adult by Marie Lamba and Talking Craft in Young Adult by Ricki Schultz were my favorites), plus tips, advice and interesting interviews from debut authors - I love hearing about other writers journeys to publication. The section on agents has all the information you need on the agency and its individual agents, how to contact and what they represent. The same goes for the publishers section. It's an easy-to-use guide that I've already highlighted and marked as I prepare to query agents. I highly recommend it to anyone seeking representation/publication in children's, MG or YA. Love it!
